I went to this place on the recommendation of a friend who grew up in San Diego. Apparently, 15 years ago, this place was good. Now, it is awful. I couldn't do anything to get my waitress to bring me a menu, drinks, or my food. My food came out cold. It was of poor quality, over priced, and I feel like the place only exists on the basis of a reputation that it built a loooong time ago, because there isn't one this there that would lead me to believe it is good or ever was good. I wish it would have been better hidden so I wouldn't have found it and wasted my time, gas, and money.

With all of the great recommendations, we tried the Hernandez Hideaway. It was awful! The famed margaritas are watered down and come in a VERY small white wine glass. The waitress seemed to be physically unable to smile, and her service was downright rude. The meal was average - certainly not good enough to make me want to come back. Don't waste your time.

The food is good and the margies are great. Sometimes the service is a little hit and miss, but for the most part everyone is friendly and helpful.

Hernandez Hideaway is a great restaurant to go after a long day. They have a wonderful selection of entrees on their menu. They also have great specials on certain dishes. The waitress was very friendly and accomodating. I would definitely go again.

Honestly, the best margueritas you'll find. I admit that I've tried one or two. Hernandez is not long on high class atmosphere - in fact, it's very, very casual - but it is friendly and the food is terrific. I'd recommend any of the carnitas plates. Use your nav system to get there from either Del Dios or Lake Drive.
