One could say with Howe Real Estate you are "trapped" at your property. This is because Howe charges the highest price for association dues and you have no choice but to pay it. Of course, I could sell my condo and get out, but who's going to pay my $290 per month dues PLUS the recent EXTRA dues payment of $290?? Yes, that's right, as if my dues weren't high enough, Howe recently let us know that they ran out of money and can't afford to pay for unexpected repairs. So, their solution was to charge every homeowner an extra month's worth of dues. Why wouldn't they, considering this is their way of doing business? And to give you some insight - the dues cover the basics: water, garbage, lawncare, snow removal. Nothing fancy or fun. When I first moved in about 5 years ago, my dues were almost $100 less per month than what I pay now. This included a very decent pool and fitness center. Well, Howe had to shut down the fitness center and pool about a year later. One would expect the association to then decrease the monthly dues payment since this was no longer a feature offered, right? WRONG, my friend. They charged me $50 EXTRA per month so they could help manage the debt they found themselves in. It would be logical to go to the homeowner's meetings to have my voice heard if the meetiings weren't every othet month and were at a time when I could attend. I'm not sure what anyone else has tried to do, but I feel completely helpless and don't know what to do.

This managment company often injects its own opinions outside of bylaws. I had to inform them if ANY letter is sent to me regarding my home that it was to include the specific bylaw I was breaking due to multipule letters sent that was OPINION not law. (such as bird feeders and mulch) This managment company also does not enforce all rules... only the ones that are easy to do behind a computer and in their office in Woodstock. I had a flooding problem for 2 years that the grading of the land caused. I had to call and complain and get into disagreements with neighbors for 2 years to get the association to fix. VERY displeased and increased issues since Howe took over.
