I'd taken my grandmother's Lane cedar chest to another so-called furniture "repair" place and they said they couldn't fix it - the legs were severely water damaged and the veneer was pulling off, the lid had several water rings and the inside had deep scratches in it. Figuring I'd get a 2nd opinion, I called Joe and he said he hadn't met a piece of furniture he couldn't make look better! Boy, was he right! My hope chest looks great now - you can't even tell where any of the damage was! Joe's great - takes his time w/ each piece and his prices are reasonable for the amount of time and and workmanship that's required. He is very proud of his work and he should be!

If you're looking for someone to restore/refinish a precious piece of furniture, look no further. Joseph is a first class craftsman. I have a secretary that my great-grandfather had made in the 1880's or '90's. It had been sitting in my grandmother's basement for years, then it was moved to my father's attic where it sat for many more years. It looked like a piece of junk, the desk front was broken at the hinges, one of the doors was cracked and the hinges bent, the moldings were all falling off, it had missing veneer, etc, etc, etc. I took it to Joseph on a recommendation from a furniture maker friend of mine. Wow, Joseph delivered the restored piece on Monday and I was thrilled with the results - it's just gorgeous; I'm sure my children will be fighting over who gets it. Joseph's attention to detail is amazing. Everything was done to keep the historical accuracy of the piece and the results are beautiful. Thank you Joseph; Jeff

Puppys and nice wooden chairs don't mix well. Joe restored my chairs back to where it was like the puppys never happened! You can tell by his reviews that he cares about his customers and his work. I'm here to tell you that he is the one to call when good wood has gone bad. You actually can't tell there was ever any damage!

Mr. Bailey kept my piece for over 4 months and when I got it back it had a very cloudy finish and was NOT even close to a smooth finish. To say I am disappointed in his quailty of work would be an understatement. I would NOT recommend this business to anyone.

well, again, i apologize for not pleasing this customer. i advised the customer up front that it needed a complete re-do and he wanted a quick cheap fix .. i did everything above and beyond expectations, and basically made the piece more than presentable , and was still constantly hurried. 30 years in this profession and this is one of the few instances where i just couldn't make the customer happy . i always try to perform a job in a timely manner , but i would rather explain why it took so long then have to try and explain poor quality work.
Joe restored a corner china cabinet for me that had belonged to my mother. His care and attention to detail were above and beyond my expectations. I would highly recommend him for any wood restoration/refinishing project no matter how challenging. It was a pleasure to work with someone who truly loves his craft.

Joe repaired & refinished an old desk and its a work of art. It was in very rough shape and my request was to have an old desk that looked loved and cared for (if I'd wanted new - I would have bought that). Joe did an excellent job. I was very pleased.

We've used Joe for years to make repairs. He's extremely detailed orientated and takes the time to ensure his repairs are done correctly the first time. In the off-chance that a repair needs to be refined he happily does it! This happened to us most recently when a chair of ours needed a little more reinforcement. And he didn't charge me for the repair. He's great to work with, he knows what he's doing, & he's reasonably priced.

I called Joe about my broken cherry wood kitchen chair. The leg and support arm was completely broken. In addition it had plenty of scratches. Joe told me "no worries", fixed it within three days. Superb craftsmanship paying special attention to detail.

I have an antique card table that is an old family piece. Joe completely transformed it back to it's original state - better, actually! It is really the showstopper it should be now, thanks to Joe making Wood Look Good!

Joe was a tremendous help to me when my bulldog puppy chewed through our favorite piece of furniture (our coffee table)! We have found it to be a unique piece and did not know where we could get a replacement if it was not able to be repaired. I was most concerned about maintaining the dark finish that matched all our other furniture. After seeing the damage done on email, Joe assured me that the finish could be matched and quoted me a fair price. It took about a week for me to get our table back, but now it looks as good as new! Joe was also very flexible when it came time for us to pick up our table. Overall, we're very happy Joe's quality of work! Our coffee table is back and looking better than ever. I'll definately keep him in mind for future wooden furniture repairs and recommend him to our friends who might need his service! Thanks Joe!

Thanks to Joe! We now have a beautiful rocking chair to care for our new baby. My father pasted away while I was 5 months pregnant and he left me my grandmother's rocking chair in which she used to nurse him. I was very hesitant to take it to someone to be redone b/c it was so precious. It needed a broken leg repaired though so I had to get it fixed if I planned to use. Joe not only repaired the leg, but tightened all the joints and surprised me by cleaning the chair and applying a new finish...it's gorgeous and very sound. It can't wait to rock my new son...such a special gift!

We purchased a claw foot oak table at auction. It was dirty, dull and too short. Joe was able to raise the table a couple of inches and make the finish look incredible. It still has the "antique" look, but now looks like a well cared for antique. We would highly recommend Joe's work.

Joseph Bailey's Wood Restoration Co. provides services for both business and residential customers, and the owner has over 30 years experience in metro Atlanta. Some services offered are finishing, refinishing, restoration, repairs, touch-up, and maintenance of fine woodwork and furniture. Additional services available are repairs and restoration to sculptures and art pieces, and expert restoration of mid-century pieces.
Joe Bailey, the owner of this family run company, was born into a furniture making family in Vermont that had the old world tendencies and mindset. His uncle, Francis 'Bud' Carpenter is a world renowned clock maker/woodworker who studied in The Black Forest of Germany. He keeps the family history book dating from 1612 when their ancestor, as an Irish indentured servant, became the town carpenter of London, hence the family name Carpenter.
As a child, Joe.. quickly realized through his training that it was challenging for him to cut straight lines, but he was able to hide any mistakes quite well by working with artwork and finishes. He holds a strong passion for the look and feel of wood and the natural artwork that God provides in graining, colors and texture. After years of studying and becoming a starving artist in the 60's, he mixed his woodworking heritage with his art training and endeavored to started crafting exceptional woodwork.
With a slogan and mindset of 'make wood look good,' Joe built his business from the ground up and has been following his dream ever since!
