Casual Southern Dining in the heart of Ridge Spring, SC. This is what small town dining is all about, great food and great service, in a quaint little town you will want to call home by the time dessert is served.
I was recently invited to dinner with several friends at Juniper. I didn't really know anything about the restaurant, but as soon as I got there I felt at home. The decor is something like a mix of grandma's kitchen and an art gallery. Surprisingly it works, right down to the mason jar water glasses. To sum it up, the food is OUTSTANDING. Wonderful presentation and flavor combination. The corn chowder is the definition of comfort food, hearty and wonderfully flavored. Chef Velie's use of local Adluh grits is inspiring, especially in his buffalo shrimp over blue cheese spiked Adluh grits. However, the menu does change weekly, which shows the chef's dedication to serving local and seasonal items to ensure high quality. The menu offers a selection of small plates and large plates, with large plates ranging from the $18-$25 range. Small plates are roughly half as much in quantity and price. The wine selection is OK, and I highly recommend the Flat Bed Red Zin to any Red Wine drinker. All in all, this is an outstanding gem to find hidden away in Ridge Spring. The atmosphere is casual, but the food is nothing short of fantastic. Bon Appetit.
