The MTS is a pretty good transit system when compared to other metropolitan areas on the west coast. There are many routes and although the schedules are not 24 hours, many end very late and then start back up very early. county is a bit of a hassle but the rest of the southern half is well covered. The trolley system has improved great lengths. For the most part security and staff are nice, hospitable and decent. I do think they need to upgrade security so that you notice at least one officer on any of the routes at any given time at lease once if you travel to more than 15 stops by bus and more than 3 stops by trolley. They do need to expand the trolley system to include parts of the the south county. It'll help with traffic and lack of bus routes out in those areas and more people would take interest in their public transit options. The closer you get to downtown SD the more options you have and you should have the same options all over. The website is fantastic though, not only can you view the actual timetables and maps for all routes, but you can (and you can also do this on google now by the way) map your specific route of where you need to go. There is also information for every connecting transit system in the area outside of the MTS. You can also purchase monthly passes and whatnot online as well. The buses and trolleys are much much cleaner than other cities transit systems too.

I didn't have a car for my first two years at SDSU, and the trolley was basically my best friend. It took me to work (at Mission Valley), Qualcomm, Fashion Valley, Grossmont Center, Downtown, and even to the Border! The Green line trolley is fairly new and the trolleys are clean. I wish they had something like this in the OC.

The transit system here could be better, the trolley is too slow. I am used to Bart from the bay area which is very fast. The good thing about the public transportation here is that it is clean.

Overall, the bus and trolley lines are really convenient. The schedules are sometimes easy to confuse and you might end up waiting a while, but overall it's great.

MTS can help you get anywhere is San Diego. The problem is that it is slow and can be expensive. They do not have transfers anymore which is very frustrating, but it is cheaper than gas.

The trolley is very convenient for students without a car or students who do not want to drive to campus and deal with over crowded parking. They offer free rides to students when going to some football games too.
