Dr. Biermeyer helped us recall that you should NEVER trust a vet who insists on treating your pet out of your sight. When we had to put our 17-year-old cat, Leroy, to sleep, Dr. Biermeyer explained that she would take Leroy to "the back room" to "give him a sedative" first. Luckily, the clinic's receptionist let it slip that the good doctor planned to give him an injection into the heart, a distressing and painful procedure we had told her we would not allow. AVMA Guidelines on Euthanasia: "Intracardiac injection is acceptable only when performed on heavily sedated, anesthetized, or comatose animals."
