Too expensive to transfer slides to .jpgs and 8mm films. They charge .37 per slide and charge added fee for slide holder removal and another fee to put it back in the little slide holder, like 20 cents each. And to top it off, they are too lazy to put the slide back in the cartridges correctly. Way too expensive for film transfer and a whopping extra $40 for it all to be placed on a DVD. Total rip off! The colors look like crap. Very unsatisfied

I am the general manager of Patchin Pictures, and I would like to comment on Wendy's negative review. Her order was unique in that her slides came individually mounted in metal frames, and her film was encased in specialty magi-cartridges. We failed in that our customer service representative did not explain about the need for special handling of these particular slides and film, which are very labor intensive. To keep our prices as low as possible, slide scan prices are based on standard 35 mm slides in paper or plastic mounts. Our film transfer prices are based on film on reels, not encased in plastic. Because we had already quoted a price to her without adding any extra handling, we DID NOT charge extra for handling her uniquely mounted slides and film.
Regarding the DVD master: it is not an "extra" charge; it is actually part of the itemized price for a film transfer. We separate the DVD price from the transfer price, which makes only the DVD taxable, instead of the whole transfer. This actually saves people money.
Regarding the colors, I have reviewed her transfer. We were as accurate as possible in transferring her film and slides as they are. The transferred slides and film that have faded color are that way because the slides and film are faded. On the ones that are not faded, the colors are rich and clear.
Our mistake as a company was in not communicating the options clearly. We do have options for color correction and special handling. Although we did the special handling at no charge, we did not offer her color correction. From talking to Wendy, I now know that this communication failure on our part is the real blame for her being dissatisfied. Our prices are very competitive for the high quality work we produce, but in Wendy's eyes we simply failed to help her understand our service options. We did not charge a penny more than we quoted, and the price was hers to accept or not. I deeply regret Wendy's dissatisfaction and was glad to discuss this with her when I discovered her problem after she wrote the review. She appreciated my listening to her and agreed that her issue was mainly in our not explaining the options more clearly, not an issue with quality or price. She even went back to some of the sites where she posted reviews and upgraded her review to four stars. We have made changes in how we present options for our orders, and I feel this exchange has helped improve our services.
I arrived at Patchin Pictures with a box of literally a thousand 35mm slides hoping to have them converted to a CD. Though it was a daunting task, the people at Patchin Pictures were willing categorize the slides according to my system and the results were phenomenal. Pictures that were taken 25 years ago look like they were taken with one of todays high-res cameras. And the price was lower than I found on the internet! I highly recommend Patchin Pictures for your needs.
