Petland is more likely to have rare fish available on site than other large box pet store, as well as a better variety of aquarium plants, however you should go in having already researched as they aren't too reliable in their information. Also, I don't suggest buying any fish related goods at this shop, as everything but the fish and plants seems to be 30% more expensive than anywhere else. Good for the variety, bad for the prices and lack of knowledge in their staff.

First of all, the store sells dogs and, as anyone who does any research at all knows, most dogs sold at petstores come from puppy mills. I asked an employee about where their dogs come from and she refused to answer me, citing that it was "business information only." Talk about suspicious. I came into the store to purchase a hamster for my classroom. They had no one to assist - not that you need it. If you want an animal any adult or child can just reach into the cage and grab one. There are far too many hamsters in each cage and there are no exercise wheels or chew toys. When I asked about the health guarantee for the animals, I was told there was only a five day guarantee (as opposed to Petco and PetSmart's 15 day warranty) and that was only if you bought a $7.00 medicine from their store. They might as well just tell everyone their animals are sick. All this and their store was not particularly clean and priced far higher than Petco, PetSmart, or PetSuperMarket (across the street and wonderful!) I would never return for any reason and plan to tell all my friends to avoid this place!
