I suffered severe back pain, and I mean severe, starting on July 15,2012 I was referred to an orthopedic spinal pain specialist who treated me with selective nerve root steroid injections. After three months of injections with minimal pain relief I was told there was nothing more this doctor could do. I was referred to Dr. Duane Pitt, who exhibited care and concern. He reviewed my x-rays and MRI and took over 30 minutes explaining my problem and his proposed treatment. He answered all my questions and I agreed to surgery. The best decision I ever made. Surgery was preformed at Osborn Medical Center, Scottsdale, and the care I received was excellent. Immediately after surgery Dr. Pitt spoke to and explained the procedure to my family. He visited me daily while II was hospitalized. I highly recommend Dr. Pitt. I found him to be competent caring and an excellent surgeon. Prior to retirement I was a Registered Nurse in charge of the operating room and recovery unit services and have always had a discerning eye toward members of the medical profession and it is with delight to recommend Dr. Pitt. I consider him, not only an excellent surgeon, but a very caring individual. Shirley D.

I was referred to Dr. Pitt by my internist. I had vertebral deterioration, arthritis and scoliosis. Dr. Pitt was gracious and spent a good 30 minutes explaining procedures and probabilities. He pulled no punches but was sure the outcome would be positive. After two (planned) surgeries my spine is aligned, I have a cage bolted to my pelvis that supports my spine, and I have regained 2 1/2" in height. Dr. Pitt saw me every day in the hospital, was explicit in advice and was very accessible. I recommend him with no reservations.

Had my appointment with Dr. Pitt this morning. I noticed that there were several other people who had scheduled an appointment with him at the same time. When he came in and saw me, he asked three or four standard questions and diagnosed me on the spot. He was moving from room to room visiting with other patients - the more patients he sees the more insurance companies he can charge. If you want a docotor who is thorough and spends time with you to help you figure out what is causing your back pain and how to deal with it - then don't see Dr. Pitt.

After several visits with various specialists, a disk surgery (neurosurgeon) and almost two years of physical therapy, I saw Dr. Pitt. I was at my wits end. He mentioned that I might be a good candidate for disk replacement surgery. I agreed to it. I am 37, mother of two, a runner, gym-goer, and an avid horseback rider. Dr. Pitt has great bedside manner, a professional and courteous staff and is overall top-notch. My life has since turned a full 180! I highly recommend getting an opinion from him. I only wish I would have seen him sooner.

I would strongly advise against seeing this surgeon. He didn't listen to me at all and treated me like a generic number. He ordered the standard printed list of drugs for me after surgery even though they were ones I couldn't take. So for 12 hours after surgery on my spine I went without pain medication. When the nurses finally got him on the phone he refused to change the order and so a doctor in the hospital had to. A post-op MRI shows a persistent herniation, something he didn't tell me was possible basically putting me at the same place I was before the excruciating surgery. Even his office staff is terrible,it took almost two full business days to get a call back from a receptionist on what to do with my bandages since I was sent home with NO post-op instructions and they sounded annoyed when I left a messaging asking for information. One of the worst doctors I have ever been to.
