While taking the golf class at Scottsdale Community College, Rio Salado was the "home" course. It has a sand trap in the practice area, something not found at all courses. The 7th hole is a challenge as you have to hit the ball over the "canyon". There are definitely some challenges.

There may be no better bargain the Valley of the Sun that Rio Salado golf course. And it's a hoot to boot. A little 9-hole public layout built within Indian Bend Wash at the Tempe/Scottsdale border, it can be tough to get a tee time in the winter. But the summer offers ample opportunity to get in a quick 9. A complete golf shop, snack shop, driving range and chipping and putting facilities. Certainly not the most difficult layout, but you can use all the clubs in your bag at one time or another and the greens putt true. It also offers an opportunity to meet some extremely down-home folks who simply enjoy getting out.
