My parents were in independent living at Smith Crossing for almost 3 years, then went to assisted living for 1 1/2 years. My dad then had to go to memory care in February 2010. After being there for less than 5 months, the head nurse, Suzanne, informed us that they could not care for my dad at Smith Crossing anymore. A few days later they sent him to the hospital, for no reason other than he gave them a difficult time getting dressed and eating that morning! When the Dr. said that my dad could be discharged from the hospital Smith Crossing informed us that he could NOT return there. He was left out on the street while my mom was still living in assisted living. Absolutely, NO COMPASSION for the patient or the family. We thought that Smith Crossing was a lifecare facility when we placed them in there. That my parents would be together and cared for for the rest of their lives. NOT SO!
