We were in an accident on 7/17/11 and the San Diego Police Dept called Star Towing who has a contract with them. At the same time, we called AAA. Star Towing arrived 3 minutes before AAA and hurriedly put the car on the truck. When AAA arrived, Star Towing refused to let us transfer the car to AAA. Star Towing explained that the charge was $185 and that my insurance would pay for it. I tried to explain that AAA tow was free for us and that since the car only had liability coverage (since the car was 20 years old), insurance would not pay for the tow. The driver was horribly rude and wouldn't listen to anything we had to say. The next day when I went to the tow yard, the total charge was $353 because of all the other nonsense charges for impound, extra labor at the scene and using the winch which we weren't told about ahead of time. THESE GUYS ARE ABSOLUTE CROOKS! But unfortunately since SDPD has contracted with these crooks, you have no choice in the matter. So I also give the City of San Diego a grade of "F" for forcing this unscrupulous business on its citizens. Comments: This company is totally dishonest because it did not disclose it's total costs beforehand. This absolutely should be illegal.

Star Towing is more expensive than other towing companies! And they only take debit and cash, they should really take credit cards especially if one night at the place is over $400. Also, when i get my car out, all my check engine lights were on and i had to take it to get checked on! the lady however, was nice.
