I took the NRA Basic Pistol Course from Mac, and it was wonderful. The classroom session is full of excellent material, delivered as slides, animations, videos, conversation/lecture, and hands-on exercises. That's followed by a couple of hours at a nearby firing range, practicing techniques, and then shooting a qualifying test. I had been shooting for several months before this class, but I learned a *bunch* of very useful techniques, and my accuracy immediately improved as a result. It was a very full day, and worth every minute. I'm a software trainer, so it's impossible to not unconsciously evaluate another trainer's delivery and methods. In that light, I have to say that Mac is a top-notch trainer. He's thorough, but engaging, and very knowledgeable. He explains everything completely, and makes you very comfortable with firearms, from safe handling to loading, cocking/decocking, correct grip and stance. I would highly recommend Mac for any of your firearms training needs. I know I'll be taking more classes from him!

Our whole family has taken courses (more than one) from Mac at SMFTS. We highly recommend his courses. He applies simply down to earth methods and uses information that is easy to follow and understand - What I call the KISS method - For someone who has absolutely no knowledge about firearms, Mac's Basic pistol course is an absolute necessity - Mac also teaches the Legal Aspects courses and if you own a firearm you better have some information regarding the law - Mac also teaches more advanced self protection courses, held at an outside range in more realistic settings - His classes are also more personal in nature, He typically has less than six people in each class vs some of the other basic NRA courses that we checked out that has as many as twenty people in each class -

My brother and I attended the FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation with Mac. Aside from being very friendly and welcoming, Mac was accommodating and knowledgeable. My brother and I had been shooting once or twice before the course, but with other people who did the primary handling of the guns. Therefore, he and I were unsure of just how comfortable we could become in an 8-hour course. Fortunately, Mac is thorough with his teachings, giving ample time to practice with actions what he taught us in words, and adding valuable advice based on his experience. On the range, I went from being somewhat imprecise to nearly hitting my target (within a few inches) with most shots. Mac was expertly aware of my shooting errors and quickly, but respectfully, corrected me. At the end of the course, it was clear that our confidence had drastically improved, all thanks to Mac. If I were to take any additional NRA course, I would ABSOLUTELY prefer to have Mac as my instructor! He won't let you down!

I attended two weekend classes with Mac: the NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home Course and the NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Course. Both classes were two days each (Sat/Sun) and cost $200/class (well worth it). These classes were fantastic! Mac is an extremely professional and highly skilled instructor who takes great pride in being an NRA instructor. After having had two undesirable encounters while living in the Atlanta area, I decided to purchase a 9mm and get my concealed carry permit. I feel much better prepared to defend myself after taking these classes should the need arise in the future. I would definitely recommend Stone Mountain Firearms Training Service, LLC to anyone wishing to become confident in handling and shooting a firearm.

I took the NRA Basic Pistol Course. This was definitely the way to go to learn about handguns and how to use a pistol responsibly. The class Mac taught included both complete coverage of the NRA Basic Pistol Instruction Manual and also hands-on practice at a shooting range. He used different guns so one can compare and get more experience with different pistols. The instructor is very thorough and at the end of the course, I was very confident I could pick up a pistol and use it safely and hit targets with accuracy.

I think the class addressed all my needs. It was very informative. The instructor was knowledgable and passionate about ensuring his students grasped the content. I benefitted from the hands on teaching that took place on the shooting range. I would recommend this instructor and class for anybody seeking basic pistol safety knowledge.

I recently took SMFTS' NRA Basic Pistol Course to learn more about handguns. I grew up around rifles -- but have limited exposure to handguns. Mac's knowledge, expertise and curriculum gave me alot of confidence and knowledge so that I can now operate and select a handgun. I would highly recommend this class to someone wanting to learn about guns.

He is very professional and knowledgeable in training people the required contents as well as offering more to help students broden their views. I enjoyed the training and met my personal goals. I would recommend his class to anyone who wants to get the training.

"Mac" McCullough did an outstanding job, bringing me from an experienced target shooter to a competent self-defense shooter. Mac's instruction made it clear that carrying "concealed" involves a lot more than just obtaining a license to carry. I'm so glad that I learned what Mac teaches before I became another unfortunate statistic.

"Mac" McCullough has to be one of the best natural gun instructors on the planet. His vast knowledge, patience and emphasis on safety over all else is so thorough, even if you have owned a gun for years, you will learn something from him. The courses are very detailed and encompass a book, videos, dry firing and laser target practice, followed by live fire shooting at a range. It is a lot of info to absorb, but so worth the learning if you are or plan to be handling pistols. Take this course from the best you will ever find, Mac McCullough. It may save your life or someone else's. I will take more courses/training from Mac, and highly recommend him.

I attended this class yesterday with my 21-year-old niece. I wanted her to have the proper training before considering gun ownership. We both needed to know the law before going forward with any additional hands on training, as well. This should absolutely be the first step to any person considering gun ownership.

My wife and I, both brand new to firearms attended the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course with Mac in January 2013. My wife had never held a gun of any kind, and I briefly went to a shooting range once before. We learned the ENTIRE day with Mac. This was a big deal since we covered so much material, but it also shows Mac's ability to effectively teach over a long period of time. In particular, my wife and I both really appreciated the premium he placed on gun safety and the "no exceptions" safety drills we did in the classroom and then transferred on the range. As a CPA, I have been through literally thousands of hours of training, and this was the single-most effective and engaging course I have ever taken, on any subject. Mac truly has the heart of a teacher and his background is second to none. He uses a blend of video and hands-on instruction that is very effective. It became very clear that ALOT of knowledge and first hand experience went into developing the training materials, and hard lessons everyone should avoid. I can't stress the value of this course, and Mac's approach in teaching sound fundamentals. I will be booking private coaching lessons with Mac in the future. I am now a more informed and responsible gun owner and a MUCH better shot.

Before taking my first class, I searched quite a bit for which company would be the best at educating and training me with regards to firearm safety, use, and effectiveness. Based on what others were saying in reviews I read, I decided to go with SMFTS and I am so glad I did. After taking my first course from Mac I was blown away at how much I learned (as in how much I didn't know). Then I thought about how little I knew before I took that course and about how many other gun owners who haven't taken any training could benefit from this type of education. I am so much more comfortable, confident, and knowledgeable with regards to using and carrying my firearm than I was before I took a course from Mac. I am convinced that there is not another trainer in Georgia that cares more about his students' firearm training, understanding, and progress than Mac. I really like his practical, responsible, and smart approach to firearms and defense. He leaves his ego out of firearms and, instead, uses his brain. Mac's biggest goals were to make sure that I was comfortable every step of the way; make sure he gave the very best, most accurate, most up-to-date, and most effective education; and to make sure that I fully understood it. He is an extremely generous trainer with both his time and his hospitality. The biggest takeaway I had with my impression of Mac was that he genuinely cares about helping other people become informed, responsible, and effective gun owners.

I took the NRA Basic Pistol Course from Mac, and it was well worth it. I learned so much about safety and handling of firearms. Mac even took extra time to teach me how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble my own personal firearm. Excellent class. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in learning to handle and shoot firearms.
