If you like your offices filthy, and your doctor preachy then this is the place for you! His waiting area is full of very dirty toys, and we had to wait very, very long all 3 times I went to him. Right off the bat I was disgusted because he didnt have sinks in his exam rooms to wash his hands and told me he only used antiseptic gel between patients, but didnt wash with soap and water! True, he did spend alot of time with me(and billed me extra for this un-solicited service!!!) but only to try to convince me I was all wrong to comfort my young baby by holding him during the visit and that his child-dicipline and religious opinions where right. I thought he was absolutly terrible!

I have been taking my now 17 month old daughter to Dr. Szold since she was about 6 months old. I can't quite decide if I really like or really dislike this doctor. On the positive side, he is very encouraging and empowering when it comes to issues such as discipline and dealing with your small child. I also like that he is not one to get prescription happy with the kids; he encourages waiting to see or using lighter measures on the millions of little things that come up health-wise. On the other side, I always feel just a little rushed at the appointments--he never asks me if I have any questions, but rather, I have to kind of speak up immediately or he would be out of the room too quick. I guess with the number of patients that need to be seen anywhere, there will be a slight rush. He also has very strong views on ways of parenting--no mushy stuff here--but hey, it works. He has lots of good literature that he wrote available. Anyway, my daughter is absolutely terrified of him--I have never seen fear iin her face like that anywhere else--but he tells me she is just making a little scene or something like that. All in all, Dr. Szold is acceptable, but definitely not a top pick for me.

We trusted Dr. Szold's medical experience would help us to find out what was wrong with our child (chronic illness) but he insisted on continually treating w/ antibiotics without doing proper testing to even see what was causing our sons problems. After no improvement in two months and non-cooperation by the staff (it was very difficult to get an appointment, even if our son was VERY sick)we took to a different Dr. The proper testing was done, he was diagnosed, and is now being properly treated for his condition. The Drs. here really only care about getting you in an out as quickly as possible, are not thorough and could care less about their patients.

Dr. Szold is awesome. He takes his time in the exam room to answer all your questions. He is great with kids and he offers lots of helpful parenting advice that actually works. We moved from La Mesa to Rancho Bernardo last year and I still make the drive to take my son to Dr. Szold. I highly recommend him to all my friends.
