I arranged for a Martinis & Manicures party for a friend who was getting married. The website for this place made it look interesting and inviting. The several people I talked to about the arrangements never answered my questions (specifically about costs) until it was too late to back out of the date. The bar is just a local "dive" bar. The manicurist was not even licensed -- just a student with some polishes and a little desk with a poor light source, and her "supervisor" hanging out at the bar. We did not even get a good manicure. The drinks were watered down, there was no special place for us to sit (like a special booth) and no special attention although I mentioned numerous times this party was for a "bride." The band was loud and unkempt and very annoying with raising and closing the "garage door" they were warming up behind. I would not recommend this bar for anyone over 25 or 30.

Beauty Bar,its like landlord Jim's...but only on SUNDAYS! Divey inside, but cool. Sunday the MUSIC is off the hook with DJ Hippo playing CLASSIC HIP HOP, breaks, funk, soul, remixes, and some Jazz! Word is you can get yourself or your date a free manicure and a martini if you book in advance...not too shabby eh! Call and ask for details! Cuties, eh some...usually a dude fest though... Shoot...you can go get some pho afterwards...at none other than PHO King...say it two times fast!!

I came here back in the day,and I am glad to see this little City Heights gem transformed with the younger local crowd filling the place up. Good local bands, nice 60's decor. Very reasonable cover and drinks are stiff.

Another good live music place, and in Da Vietnamese Hood, which also works for me. Close to home, free parking, cheap cover($5 and a band!), interesting local, eclectic clientele.

Another way cool gem. No tourists from the Gaslmap here.(they'd be too scared to drive here) No valet parking, no scene posuers. Live bands, stiff drinks, low cover, and plenty of neighborhood locals.

Back in the 60s this was the place for the NAges in East Dieo, noe it is the place in City Heights. Live bands in the back with maniucres and drinks in the front. Old 60;s style dryer seast you can sit in/on while you poeple watch. Can you dig it?
