We ate here for someone's birthday shortly after we moved to the area and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. As the other reviewer pointed out, the sides are fairly simple but the steak makes it all good (that mushroom appetizer is GREAT). I've only been there a couple of times since then since it is a bit pricey but worth it for special occasions.

This steakhouse is a historic fixture of our area; it has been around for years and its location adds to its charm. Next to the old general store off Live Oak Canyon Road, just traveling to the restaurant is fun. This is the place that will cut off your tie if you are imprudent enough to wear one; thousands of items of sliced neckware hang from the ceilings. (I think I spotted my husband's still hanging after a high school visit back in the 1970s...) The steaks are the reason to visit Trabuco Oaks, they are getting more and more expensive but they do taste great. You won't get a lot of choices with your meal, the fixin's are a green salad with vinaigrette, fries or potatoes, western beans, garlic bread and toast; nothing fancy here. I recommend the mushroom skillet appetizer, it is quite good, and they have a dessert called a "gizmo" which is a MUST - check it out. The last time we went the service was less than enthusiastic, but that hopefully was an aberration and not a trend. If you want to experience the best of Orange County the way it used to be, pay a visit to Trabuco Oaks.
