Atlanta Basement Creations

My wife and I vetted many contractors, both basement specialists and total home contractors, and selected Atlanta Basement Creations because of the combination of value, experience, and ease of communication. During the bidding process, Michael was collaborative with ideas on how to maximize our space and compliant with our needs and wants. We had already planned out much of how we wanted the basement to look through the use of an architect which made the process easier. ABC's price was fair and in line with what we were expecting based on other estimates. Throughout construction there were instances that came up that merited change orders, either due to unforeseen complications or because of our design choices evolving. All considered, we only experienced a 5% increase in cost due to changes. Our foreman, Roger, was excellent to work with. He gave us complete confidence that his standard of quality was up to ours. Roger went the extra mile to check everything and be methodical about construction so we would not need maintenance in the future. For example, before setting a new steel beam, he double checked the foundation to ensure it could withstand the load. We found that our house was missing the necessary foundation footers. Roger got his team to diagnose, fix, and get engineering approval for this fix while still completing the job on schedule. Outstanding work! Highly recommend!

ABC competed a full basement remodel to build out a master in-law suite. Roger Harman was the project manager and I wouldn't have it any other way as he was very engaged, detailed, and prompt. The project took about 3 months (right in-line with original estimate) since this was a very extensive remodel. The subcontractors that they employ (i.e. electrician, HVAC, plumbing, cabinetry, stone mason, flooring, and tile installers) were also very experienced and detail oriented. It was clear that the subs they employ cared about quality first as well as making good suggestions. The quality of the finished basement was better than the high expectations we had set at the beginning of the project; which is very important when it comes to keeping in-laws happy. Anyway, prior to the project I solicited bids from 7 separate contractors and ABC's estimate came in around the middle of the pack with two bids seemingly having been too low to really have been feasible. That said, I have no doubt I made the right choice from a quality perspective, but the bang for the buck was even better. The basement has the same degree and style of finishes as the rest of the house so it complements and looks as if it were done by the home builder...except a bit better. ABC was priced reasonably but their competence, timeliness, and character totally made this the right choice as we couldn't be happier.

Our basement was just completed and my husband and I could not be more pleased. The job was finished 2 weeks ahead of schedule (when does that ever happen?). A few notes worth highlighting: The quality of the work was outstanding. The foreman on the job is a perfectionist so he ensured that everything was completed perfectly. He picked up on little things he wanted corrected that my husband and I would have never even noticed. The subcontractors were all professional and did exemplary work. They showed up as scheduled and often worked late into the evenings to finish a job or on the weekends. Michael and his foreman, Roger, are outstanding. They were so easy to work with and accommodating. Anything we wanted to add or change, no matter how far into the project, they made it work. They had an excellent understanding of the project, when things would happen, and kept us informed. The final product is great. We built a bar which is gorgeous. They also made a sitting area, game room, and some kids rooms with shelves and a desk. We would highly recommend Michael and his team at Atlanta Basement Creations. I wish they did work on entire houses because I'd have them come in and make the rest of the house look as great as our basement!

Upon interviewing a number of contractors with regard to finishing our basement, we ultimately selected Atlanta Basement Creations. Michael impressed us from the very beginning - he closely listened to our needs and worked well with us to create a space that we will be enjoying for years to come. He was extremely patient with us as we worked through a number of details and he advised us well as it related to maintaining our established budget. In addition, we were extremely impressed with all the subcontractors that worked for Michael - it was clear that they have all worked together for quite some time and they each have a thorough understanding of the expectations for efficiency and quality. My children went from scared to enter the basement to excited to play in the basement (and they don't want to come upstairs)! What a difference hiring such an imaginative and professional team made to our home. We literally increased our living space; it no longer looks like a basement but a third level of our home. The finishes are gorgeous, the process was simple, and they held our hand the entire way. Michael has a solid team supporting him. Our Project Manager was very responsive, and creative. The contractors were incredibly punctual - and just so nice to work with. I honestly cannot say enough positive remarks about Atlanta Basement Creations. We interviewed a few companies and what sold me was the time Michael spent with me on the phone asking about my family, our hobbies, interests, etc... Not once did I feel he was a salesman, but instead felt he was a consultant - He was the only one I interviewed that wanted to create an environment that would be customized specifically for my family to enjoy for many years to come. I highly recommend Michael and his team.

Atlanta Basement Creations recently transformed our drive-under garage/basement into a beautiful, light-filled apartment. The space no longer looks like a garage or basement; it looks like another lovely living level in our home. Before choosing Atlanta Basement Creations, we spoke with four contractors. We chose Atlanta Basement Creations based on Kudzu Reviews, Michael Humin's throroughness and professionalism, and Michael's reasonable quote. Throughout the project, Michael and his project manager, Roger, took our needs, ideas, and budget seriously. Michael and Roger provided excellent ideas and advice, and they made sure that each phase of the project was completed to our satisfaction. The framing, plumbing, electrical, millwork, tile, cabinetry, and paint all reflect skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail. A.B.C. finished our project ahead of schedule, and we are very pleased to have an apartment that functions and flows very well and is more spacious and attractive than we imagined it could be. The look is stunning. Atlanta Basement Creations was the right choice for us. We've already recommended Michael to a friend, and we would choose to work with Michael and his company again.

We chose Michael and his team at ABC to design our dream basement and he delivered! The project came in on time and on budget, and Michael worked with us along the way to make changes as our project developed. We are extremely happy with the result and can't wait to start enjoying our new basement.

Disappointing level of service, and ultimately we were left at the 90 yard line after 24 weeks on a 14 week schedule bc ABC got busy with new jobs and stopped managing our job to completion. There were significant quality issues that we ourselves had to identify. Worse, Michael in essence shot the messenger..only later when prompted did he admit he was misdirecting his frustrations towards us. One minor quality issue was where Michael himself was installing black tarp over exposed insulation in an unfinished room (so kids can't touch), and he left 10% of the wall uncovered. When I asked him to cover the rest, he became visibly agitated, claiming "I have never had to cover a wall with plastic before!", like it was an unreasonable request. When I reminded him that a) he did the same thing 4 houses down, b) that he was the one that recommended it in the first place, and c) that of course this was something I was paying him for, he then retreated to a personal attack against me instead (!). Michael's final list of charges and credits from design tweaks curiously represented a strong memory of items we *added* but a weak memory of items we *removed*. And while he knew exactly how much to charge for additions, somehow each credit became a negotiation. So while the quality of work actually delivered was satisfactory, this was hardly the quality of service and professionalism we thought we were paying a premium for.

We hired Michael and his team at Atlanta Basement Creations to complete a 1400 sq ft basement and were very happy with the result. Michael provided a well planned schedule for completing the project and finished a week early. His contractors were professional and courteous. His prices are fair and the workmanship is excellent. We are very happy that we chose ABC!
