Caveat Emptor - ignore other services that contain prefixes to the name (such as AAA-Dekalb Tree Service). Only deal with Keith Hutcheson who has been doing this for years. Keith's quote for removing a 130-foot pine tree next to my house was so low I was suspicious. The $1400 included stump grinding. Other quotes were 3x that - without stump grinding. I asked him to schedule the work only after 4 days of dry weather because my lawn is a swamp after it rains. He rescheduled once per my request and they came after 7 dry days. The crew and equipment were substantial. They had 2 huge trucks, a Bobcat shovel, several pick-ups, a large limb grinder, and a large stump grinder. Two tree-climbers took turns carefully lowering all tree-sections and 4 guys on the ground removed the pieces as they came down. Very efficient and friendly staff. The section of my property where they worked was cleaner and less cluttered when they left than before. They blew off the roof and blew out the gutters. I was amazed by the quality of work and tipped them all $20 each! A+++ Thanks Keith!

After having called Gunnison's 3 times with no response, I called DeKalb Tree Service and made an appointment for an estimate. Keith showed up at the scheduled time and gave me a very reasonable estimate for the work. They removed four huge trees located across a creek and on a steep hill and did an excellent job. They had to remove a portion of my fence to get the stumps out but put it back each night so I could let my dog out. It took them about 1 1/2 days to finish the work but it was a big job in a tough spot. I would highly recommend using them and if I ever have to take down another tree I will definitely call them back. Good job guys!!

We lost a giant pine tree in a storm last month, and we were concerned that the roots of a larger pine right beside it had been damaged. We hired Dekalb Tree Service to remove the pine and grind the stump of the tree that had fallen. They gave us a fair estimate and seemed much more knowledgeable than the other guys we talked to. The crew arrived earlier than promised, worked quickly, and cleaned up our yard beautifully. Our tree was in a fairly tight space between our house and three sets of power and cable lines, but it didn't faze them a bit. It was amazing to watch the guys in the trees work. (Our neighbor had a pine removed at the same time.) While I did not enjoy spending a lot of money on tree removal, I thought it was worth every penny, and I'd hire them again in a second.

DeKalb Tree Service took down a neighbor's large oak tree. I offered my driveway as a parking and staging area for their large crew to keep them out of the busy street. I moved my vehicles and they took up my space all day. I asked if I may have some firewood and said that I would take all they would give me. They indicated that I could have the firewood and ask me what size I would like it cut. To show my appreciation I kept their large crew supplied all day with bottled juices and water on ice. I was given about dozen pieces of cut wood, what would fit in one scoop of a bob cat, and was shocked when they drove away with a huge, and I mean huge, supply of nice cut up oak firewood. My bottled juices and water cost more then the small amount of wood that they left me was worth. I felt very used. They may be fine at taking down a tree, but they do not treat others right.

This is more about service than price, and out of the four companies I contacted Dekalb Tree Service was quick (primary objective), reasonable and did a great job cleaning up after a hazard tree issue. High five to Keith, Sheldon and the crew.

This was the lowest by far of 4 estimates to cut down 3 pine trees close to the house. I was a bit nervous about using the lowest bid and reading a few negative reviews, but 2 neighbors highly recommended them, so I went with it and have no regrets. They did a super job in half the time other companies estimated. They did reschedule once, but that was not a problem for me. They took down part of a fence to get the Bobcat in to haul off the large trunk pieces, but were very careful not to damage the grass lawn areas. They blew off the roof, lawn, driveway and street so everything was clean as a whistle when they left. They even pruned a couple of limbs on the power service line for free. They hauled away all debris and ground one stump. The next lowest price estimate I got for the same work was 60% higher than DeKalb.

Keith, the owner, came out and gave us a very respectable estimate for what we wanted done. His crew led by Dave, crew supervisor, came out and was very helpful in making suggestion on how to remove the lower canopy of the trees. They removed a tree that was hit by lightening and others that posed a definite hazard. They lowered every limb and trunk by rope and did not damage the lawn or any other surrounding areas. They also did a great job in there clean up after the work was done. I would definitely call this company back. Every one of the workers was polite and very knowledgeable in there job. And ..... no, I am not a friend nor a relative ... just a satisfied customer. Bob M Stone Mountain, GA

I had DeKalb Tree come out about a month ago to give and estimate for removing a couple of large fractured limbs that were hanging over our kitchen. I chose DeKalb Tree based off of these generally good Kudzu reviews. The estimate came in a bit higher than I expected (disclaimer: this was my first time pricing such work) so we admittedly drug out feet a bit to get a feel for the market rate before finally scheduling an appointment for this past week. Two hours before the scheduled appointment, we got a call saying they couldn't come out that day because they had emergency work that took priority. Really? I just decided to start over and find yet another company - I can't be bothered to spend my money on a company that can't honor an appointment because there are more lucrative jobs out there. If that's the game they want to play, that is fine, but they have to be prepared to lose business and if this is something that would bother you I recommend looking elsewhere.

Keith, Randy and their crew were super friendly, professional, quick and did a fantastic job trimming two trees in our back yard. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend DeKalb Tree Service for your tree-trimming needs!

We received a free estimate within 24 hours of our call. Prices were fantastic! Best out of 3 quotes we received. While there was a minor hiccup with scheduling, once we locked it in, DTS showed up on time, got right to work, and finished in record speed. They cut down two trees in my front yard. No damage to the house, cleaned up afterwards, and my yard looks better than it did before they came! Really professional and reasonable. Would definitely recommend!

Called dekalb tree to remove a tree that was leaning against the porch after a storm. They first quoted $7500. When my insurance agent told me that sounded like price gouging (as did two other tree companies who came out to give me estimates for other work i was having done), they lowered the price to $4500, which the agent said was still gouging. But because I am a single mother and was scared and upset, the agent reluctantly agreed. They did ok with removing the tree but had agreed to grind the stump and didn't. Two months later they came asking for a check but still hadn't ground the stump even after i called. Again I was told they would grind the stump and they didn't show up. They came when I wasn't home and harassed my teenage children for payment, even though the work wasn't completed. They have since been paid but the stump is still there. As a single mom, I clearly still have a lot to learn about how shady businesses take advantage of women who don't know any better. My advise - use a different tree company. Their practices are unethical.

Their arborist was good, and they did the job quickly. But, they did not clean up as well as I would have liked (or as they promised). Also, they busted my fig tree that was in process of growing - when I asked him what happened, he answered "Oh, we broke that," like it was no big deal. I also don't care writing checks to the owner's name vs a business - feels like something shady is going on, vis-a-vis tax. Not sure I would use them again.
