railroad museum - very interesting
This museum recaptures the essence of the steam locomotive railroad days and features Wilmington and Weldon railroad artifacts dating from 1840, as well as a model exhibits of the Atlantic Coastline's North Carolina-South Carolina regional routes of the 1940s and 1950s. They have "real" trains on the outside of the building you can walk into and inside they have model trains that you can play with. All ages would enjoy this place.
a "must" see!
Tryon Palace was the first home of the NC governor in coloniel times since New Bern was also the first capital of the state. Best time to visit - during Christmas when they have it decorated like colonial times and even cooking like they did back then. Lovely gardens in the spring and fall too.
small - but hours of viewing
NC Maritime Museum is small, but you can spend hours here looking at all the different shells, sea life, etc that they have on display. This is really a nice museum that even has old wooden boats from the 1800's and some even earlier that they found on the shoals.
